多家外媒报导，美国总统川普周三 (30 日) 表示，上周与中国国家主席习近平会面时，曾提及释放政治犯的问题，并希望相关讨论能取得成果。
川普于2024年竞选总统期间接受专访时，曾明确承诺「100%救出黎智英」。
记者周三询问川普，是否曾在上周川普会上，向习近平提及香港媒体大亨黎智英，以及遭中国拘押的缅甸学者、美国公民敏辛 (Min Zin) 等人的个案。
川普回答:「我确实向习主席提过。确实有。」
川普表示，双方进行了「非常、非常重要的讨论」，并称希望这些讨论能有成果。
白宫在习近平访美前曾表示，预期川普会提出在中国遭不当拘押者的个案，但未说明他是否打算直接触及西藏、维吾尔穆斯林少数族群，以及中国新「民族团结」法律等更广泛的人权议题。
争取遭海外拘押的美国人获释，一直是川普的优先事项之一，其中包括遭中国拘押者。不过，他大致上避免公开谈论中国对待藏人、维吾尔人及异议人士的方式。
