在中国国家主席习近平访美前夕，中共中央政治局委员、中国外交部长王毅17日（周四）同美国国务卿鲁比欧通话，双方深入讨论两国高层交往。
王毅表示，一段时间来，中美关系总体沿着两国元首确定的建设性战略稳定轨道前行，这有利于回应国际社会期待。
据《央视》报导，王毅强调，元首外交是中美关系定盘星。双方要本着平等、尊重、互惠精神筹备好下阶段高层交往，加强沟通、推进合作、管控分歧，尊重彼此核心利益，发出中美致力于推进建设性战略稳定关系、共促世界和平与发展的正面信号。
这场峰会正值美中关系与人工智慧（AI）产业都处于敏感时刻。美中双方在 AI 竞赛、国际贸易、中东局势等议题上的地缘政治紧张升温。
美国总统川普预定下周在白宫为习近平举行国宴，苹果(AAPL-US) 执行董事长库克和OpenAI执行长奥特曼都准备出席。
据《彭博》报导，消息人士透露，这两位科技业高层预计将与其他企业领袖一同出席国宴，包括辉达(NVDA-US) 执行长黄仁勋。
